Every Day
As the train drags from London Bridge,
Next to St. Mary Overie,
The wheels screechy loud on groaning track
Above Borough Market, savoury.

Ears and nose are assaulted strong,
And eyes are sorely tried,
Dramatic views flash through optics
That warehouse often hide.

This noisy, bumpy, dramatic ride,
A way of life for many,
For wide eyed, marvelling, visitors,
Worth every silver penny.

At Waterloo expectant wait
As articulate snake unloads,
Then bursts out bright from dark of night,
The river! Buildings! Bridges! Roads!

Where to stare? What to say?
Slow down the pace, let me look!
St. Pauls, The Tower and Festival Hall,
The sites unfold as travel book.

But this is just a. glimpse of all
As carriages roll to cavern place,
Charing Cross, then Nelsons Square,
While further on, Sceptre and Mace.

This golden city is not just now,
The future is plain to see,
Through its past began ere Roman times
It still belongs to me!
