Except
For one brief moment,
Perhaps
For one instant photograph.
Dew covered, shining like beacons.

Later,
Dry and large
In the noon day sun,
The hosepipe gun
Restores the glowing picture.

But when the sky
Turns from blue
And the flowers hue
All become silver,
These flags are lost forever.

How marvellous
To be framed in gold,
Lovingly pressed
To grow not old,
In glorious technicolour.
