Light Of My Life
Darling
We waited on the broadwalk,
Waited, watching, wondering.
Watching Saint Clements Isle,
Wondering all the lonely while
Where the Punctual Paquet Boat,
Was she still serene, afloat.

The silent watchers
On the curved harbour wall
Clock watching, clock tappers
Waiting for the sirens call.

When all at once,
Greyhound, sleek and shining white,
Passing Mouseholes rounded coast
Makes heart beats rise in silent toast.

With sinking sun and twinkling stars
Sicillonian slides slowly ashore,
And gently releases her cargo,
Empty at last,
But no, one more.

The crane swings round,
And the lowering hook
Disappears in dark hold,
In crypt like nook,
To clinch in view
A coffin draped in Red Duster,
And slowly descend for funeral rites,
In the centre of this strange cluster.
