Light Of My Life
Darling
Hard to believe that Caesar,
In his History Of The World,
Described how we Heathens
With blue face and long hair, curled,
Were lower than the animals
Our lives so full with sin,
And yet he built his Temples
On our Barrows that we filled in.

And William, another scorched earth man
Tried to shackle our minds,
Forced on us mutton whilst we ate lamb,
We left this foreigner blind.
This man who built his keep
Where Roman left his mark,
Where Ancient Man, for some thousands of years
Made this land a park.

The Vikings, the Danes, the Dutch,
Came to conquer, stayed to live,
Became like us, so English.
And Cromwell, in Gods disguise,
The Witches tried to banish
Until the sense of Jesus
Held high the Hanging Stones,
Where Common Man could pray for Peace,
No fear of broken bones.

Who would have thought this Atomic Time
With Star Travel a coming age,
That Heritage and barbed wire wails,
And Government in a rage,
Where slavery is de jure,
But not yet quite de facto,
Where Travellers reviled and need a pass,
Where travel South is trespass.

It is much too hard to believe.
