Light Of My Life
Darling
It was a grey day
Winding up from the Golden City,
Trees only half high,
Wet lanes really rather pretty.

Signpost leaning cockeyed,
Finger pointing to Heaven,
Saw the word Monument,
The hour was near eleven.

Ducking under the dripping boughs
And climbing the rounded slope,
The sky calm, though leaden,
Blue too much to hope.

The grass gave way to slippery earth
And soon gave way to shale,
This grey day Monument
Magnificent in warm hail

A rounded mound, a muddy ditch,
A flight of steps, alarming pitch.

But inside the opaque black cell
Unearthly silence reigned,
Bewitching in its spell.

So quiet
That soon the sound of heartbeat,
Striking at pendulum rate,
Overpowered the senses,
Overcame the fear and hate,
Turned this Tomb into a Palace,
This Cairn into a Church.
Left this incumbant most serence,
Satisfied with the search.
