Yeah Yeah
I bought a hat
In the village shop,
A fine hat,
And to go with it
A Celtic broach,
Red and blue stones
On a silver couch.

The post office,
An amazing corridor in a croft,
With postage stamps from a high up hatch,
Cashed a Girocheque with alacrity.

Rubber necked round this television set,
This picturesque new-pin town,
And read the gravestones.
Dead seafarers,
Quiet on the grass.
Entered cool and silent place,
Satisfying and serene,
Quiet under this roof.

The pier,
Six feet higher above the drought,

Was no patch on Southend,
But did its job
Efficiently.

Plopped stones
Onto a rain spattered surface,
And Ben wriggled
Generously.

Enjoyed thc sight
Of long horned,
Ginger coated, cattle,
The peace,
The space,
Enormously.
