Looking north frorn Arisaig
Oil whidswept bleak sea shore,
With rain clouds hugging tight the waves
And headlands fast shut door,
Pillars of light break through the gloom,
Show golden lands in store.

Cross this glass flax tiny sea,
A glowing mirror bright,
See green, grey flecked, with wool dressed beasts,
Then Black Points stretched fingers height,
Cut in two, by cotton wool,
Stark line in sunshines might.

Now this blue, rnilk capped, sea
Paints new the shining sand ,
As big eyed, glistening shapes peep up
Just out of reach of hand,
And where the weaving tendrils drift.
At boundary of silver strand.

Low slung and solid, crisp white, croft,
Brave castle high, with pepper pot,
Purple field and line of rock,
Wide open land, wide herd of dot,
This Misty Isle, a dream come true,
Left behind but ne'er forgot.
