Retired
Well I remember the Pigs
Rubbing their backs on our old Ford Eight,
And skidding on polished floor, upstairs,
Whenever they squeezed through the gate.

In the quiet of The Evening
With Baby at Mothers breast,
The Mice, with stuttering walk,
And noses held at angle best,
Gave to us delicious delight,
Carrying off a crumb or two,
Towards their hidden nest.

Here we saw a friendly Ghost
Standing at the foot of the bed,
And many a time the old rooks nest
Tumbled on our head
Blocking the chimney, returning the smoke,
Making our eyes rimmed red.

Across the road, a giant hangar,
An Air Force Store no more,
And further on, a Burial Mound,
The survivor of many a War.

And over there
By The Cross, and The Horse,
Beyond The Roman Way,
Another Oldbury paints The Horizon,
Survives another day.
