My Love
Piccadilly Circus
Retired
I didn't enjoy firing my gun
And watching those floppy figures,
In mid run,
Slow motion tumble
And crumple.

My snub nosed,
High powered, best friend,
Held before me as a blazing banner,
Always to be obeyed
To avoid its deadly clamour.

Those high speed lumps of lead
Ploughing their routes through flinching flesh,
Leaving my twitching Sten Gun,
Intent on perfect flight.
A trajectory of Death,
Mid Summer turned to Darkest Night.

Was my reaction correct
My training worth the phlegm?
"Think not of England, son.
Think how it is.
You or them"!

But this horror fills me with dread.
Am I an animal to wish my Enemies dead?
And, where my view once green field, blue Sky,
Now only flattened horizon,
Spattered red!
