Retired
I was trapped on this tragic island,
Isolated in a sea of cars,
The human mass stationary,
Parked inside Belisha's bars.

Halfords was left behind me,
Boots bus queues a quiet crush,
McDonalds, bright and gaudy,
Yellow, with a Royal blush.

The glowing light with capital STOP,
Demanded stillness and attention,
No movement here, nor conversation.
Now a World of death like suspension.

The cars float by in dream like state,
The rainbow buses clouds in the sky,
The pigeons halted in mid flight,
Raucous sound a silent sigh.

I see the Arch Way to the Church Yard,
Cool and blue, inviting,
And as the RED light changes GREEN,
My World awakes to "Great Tom" striking.
