Retired
When The Alarm
Alarms me in The Morning,
One short hour before The Dawning,
My programmed brain heeds the warning,
And I am yawning
Five minutes before my time.

But, when again there is no need
No need for this Clattering Sound,
When The Clock may turn around
Before my feet must touch the ground,
Will I awake,
Refreshed
At an earlier Time
To hear the Church Bell softly chime
At some unearthly hour,
Will I have Time To watch the Sunrise flower,
To blossom and bloom,
The warm rays to light my room?

Perhaps I may never sleep again,
My freed Thoughts chasing on
Like some speed train
Not always "main line" track,
But the Distant Signal clear to see,
Free to travel forth and back
As the notion pleases me.

Will I rise before The Sun,
Will I get my Days Work done,
Will there ever be Time enough
To list my Electric Thoughts,
Will The Crosses and The Noughts
Make sense in this seeming Senseless Life,
Will I rise above The Strife,
And write only
Of Love
Tomorrow?
