My Love
Here I sit cocooned in warmth
While ice covered tarns
crack out their agony.

The cold grips tight
The labouring larynx

And freezes raw bare tree.

Lung cries loud in silent pain
As icicles dig deep
In snow now death heavy.

Mercury, free in sudden rush,
Glass no more a jail.
Feathered, lifeless forms now drop
stiff from beak to tail.

All as though a painters brush
Once dipped, once stroked
Now put down,
And artist standing,
Walking back,
Searches with a frown.

All is dead.
All is still.
But quick the sable moves
And paints a snowdrop
Peeping through,
As springtime life now proves.
