My Love
I do not want to grow too old
And lay cold
In my bed so hard and empty,
The night so long and dark,
At each noise I hark
And think of you, my life so lonely.

The creaking house once warm, alive,
Each knocking tightening beam a friend,
Is now a place of broken dreams
As I stiffly wait for my end.

The chairs, and tables are empty too,
And flowers drop down to the floor.
The windows, darkening, hide views of you
And no more the rat tap at the door.

The garden is a jungle where
The spiders knit their home of pearl,
And grass, once like a bowling green.
G rows tall like man with ends that curl.

The days are long,
The nights are too,
Perhaps I'll sleep the hours a few
When my heart and limbs are aching cold,
And I'll not wake before I'm old.
