My Love
The distant roar of thunder,
In bright September sky,
Acted like a magnet
To squinting, searching eye.

The gently blowing, drying wind, Chased wisps of streaky cloud,
And noise up high deceived the brain
By drifting soft, then loud.

The shining sun, though Autumn gold,
Struck metal with a flash,
And roar of Whittles engine
Showed fighters heavenward dash.

The twisting plane glowed black, then white,
When rudder bar was moved,
Soon straining eyes lost sight of flight
As Newtons law was proved.

The rumble of the rushing plane
Grew distant, then died down,
The silence, and the cotton wool blue,
Left watchers with a frown.
