My Love
Babies eyes are always blue
In Africa. and Europe too,
And in the land of the midnight sun
Inside the arctic line,
The flowing waves of Nordic eve
Are blonde and exceeding fine.

Further south, where sun is hot,
And direct above in sky,
Curly hair like steel wool, black,
Protect s our sensitive eye
From beads of sweat. that stand out proud,
when heat would make us fry.

In Eastern land When rising orb
Comes flashing cross open sea,
Squinting eye, Finds rest of sorts,
With plain hair, plaited or free.

Around this globe With colours five,
Our skins are vibrant And alive.
And, but for accident of birth,
Be dressed as fugitive frown hive.

But me, I'm neither black nor white,
Nor red. nor yellow, nor brown.
For I become invisible
And never cause a frown,
I am like a chameleon,
Never out of place,
No colour in this eye of mine,
And just a smile upon my face.
