Thirty Days ...
The sun shone overhead
A shield of burnished gold,
The shimmering heat lay blue
On pastures green and furrow fold.

The poppy dazzling crimson,
Wheat a startling yellow,
Cornflowers blushed electric blue,
All stood proud with ne'er a shadow.

The golden orb, its highest stood,
Full half a year from low.
Its magic now had warmed the ground,
And melted long the satin snow.

The lazy fish lay torpid deep,
The birds on thermals swung,
And floating bees soft buzzed by
As tinkling, lilting, bluebells rung.

The earth asleep
In summer slow,
The time is now
For stones to grow,
The giants and the fairies too
Labour long on dolmens low,
And as the seasons come and go,
They multiply, row on row.
And circles too to find the stars,
To finger point to moon and mars.
