Thirty Days ...
Today, on our red brick wall,
A gorgeous striped bumble bee
Slept'd away his life.

The sun had set,
And the evening cool dew'd
The trees and fading blooms.

His silky wings of shimmering thread,
Fluttered and trembled his failing heart.
The twitching grip of feelers
Losing hold of life.

The black and gold
Gloss of colour growing cold,
Summer tumbling down into night,
Tiny bright life dimming,
A life lead white as light,
But now a store of nectar
Needs no humming flight.

He struggled and crumpled,
Still regal and aloof,
Alone at last
In the palm of my hand.
A striped band.
A bumble bee.
