We had sat for many years Welcoming the Dawn, Awoken early by Blackbirds song On Summer mornings, warm, And evenings too, as we held hands And watched the Sun go down, Saw slow white Clouds drifting by To make a stunning crown As golden light drifts into Night, With sleep an enveloping gown. Was this Lucifer astonishing my eyes, Or Jupiter on its pathway of surprise. Or even perhaps a lonely Rock on its pre-ordained course, Brighter than the Brightest Star and filled with Titanic force? My heart was sudden cold, My body a statue solid, My vision fixed on this Projectile as through the Ether it volleys It was gone And tiny me, galvanised, Pulled Slabs of Rock o'er my head For sure This Beast had been before, And soon will come again.
