In this scientific world Where we know All of Life, Atoms, qwarks and Theory of String, And how to conquer strife, Before we knew the Earth was round, Or even of radio, We built our Ellipse of Standing Stones And felt the air-waves glow. In those bygone days We praised the Rising Sun, Loved the changing Shape of Moon In its wondrous monthly run, Counted down the days to Spring, Then watched the crops golden grow Only to shiver and freeze again In Winters pure white snow. But always it seemed In our struggle to survive We called out our prayers In the hope to revive The warm and everlasting time Of Mid Summer and larder crammed tight. Was it possible then that God looked down Protecting us with Gracious Might? Did Ancient Man survive the Ice and Flood, Progress from Cave to Wattled Mud, Completely on his own? Was there ''Someone else'' planning the route, Supplying the life giving fruit So that we must ever atone? Why did this Magnanimous Being Make such a fuss of us, Why were all other Creatures Denied this extraordinary fuss? Perhaps this Whole Great Story But a figment of some-ones greed. The chance to manipulate millions To mould us in one meek creed. Out there Beyond the Sun and Stars, Further on beyond Times bars, Ever onwards and yet further still, Until there is no Space to fill Surely, in this Vast Emptiness, This completely dead Nothingness, Where nothing yet thought of is alive, Where not even loving thoughts survive, Even the Greatest Deity ever Could never, Never ever Exist? 29th July 1994, VICAR ANTHONY FREEMAN SACKED FOR SAYING God is not out there, God is here, within us!
