Hear This
Finally
This stable,
Nestling in its tree lined grove
Adjacent to the shepherds drove,
Stands still and silent
In its blue twilight,
Shadowed from the sunshine bright,
As ringing sound of steel on steel
Echoes with a presence real.
Equus, white as rain washed bones,
Nuzzles green meadow land
Below the Iron Age corral,
Below the ancient trackway strand.
This creature, history to Centurions,
Market place for Grecian urns,
Signpost for the visiting pious,
Regal in its twists and turns,
Glows alive. alive,
Blows steam from nostrils wide,
Captured here in mid stride
But soon to turn,
And with majestic steps,
Again stand still and silent
In shadows blue,
As Smith, with dripping brow,
Secret plies his trade,
Shapes the Horseshoe and the plough.
