Magic mixture of silicon and air
That ancient man took care
To place in upright standing stones
That maybe covered bleached white bones
.
The whirls and wheels of this strange mixture,
Now entombed in many a fixture
In Englands lovely. lonely places,
Brings to skeletons, smiling faces.
Enigmatic silica
Tests the brains of men from far
And near, with strange devices,
Waking early, exercises.
Up and down round they go,
Watching needle fast and slow,
Expecting sleeping stalagmite
To give up secret overnight.
