Little Audrey held my hand
The day we went to Neston,
She wiped my nose,
And combed my hair,
And made sure I had my vest on.

Little Audrey kept me safe
On the tow path at Boulters Lock,
And we stared in awe
At Fauntleroys car,
With a real petrol engine and clock.

Audrey, later, took me home
For tea at Granny Garretts,
I roamed the garden
Amongst the trees,
Ate liquorice sweets by Bassetts.

Audrey, last seen by me
At number eight Ridge Terrace,
Would be surprised
How wide the view
Where prefabs stood, now green space.

Audrey dear, so much has changed,
Life can be cruel and sad,
But when I remember
The happy times
I confess I'm rather glad
That at least one path I strode,
Apart for marrying my own true love,
Wiltshire, and the men of wode.
