Dead is Dead
A Penny For Them
My Old Dutch
Hush
My ears forgot to warn me
Of approaching danger,
Or even blackbird song,
If my eyes could not show me
Green clad forest ranger,
Or antlers pointed long,
If my nose could not sniff out
The difference of "five" or fire,
My mind decide the right
Of naked truth or cringing liar,
If my frozen fingers
No response to crystal glass,
My useless blackened toes
No tickle at dampened grass,
If my heart no longer raced
At flashing eye and moistened lips,
At white, glimpse, of thigh,
At undulating hips,
Then I must be stretched long,
Though small and thin,
Alone on my bed,
My soul without sin.

My eyes wide open.

I would take a deep breath
And become alive with oxygen,
And take one giant step
To journeys end and then
Once spore to see, and taste, and hear
A child again, free from fear,
Where Alice and Rupert,
And Pooh Bear too,
Would stay all day,
The hours too few.

I would live again.
