A Penny For Them
My Old Dutch
Hush
When sabre tooth and dinosaur stilled the human form,
And pounding raw blood in mens ears
When wolf was on his walkabout
Underlining bipeds fears,
There was no time or need
To turn the land to wheats ears,
No energy left when all was spent
To stay alive.

When reptilian crumpled into dust,
Or lived forever castaway in stone,
An d tiger crept into oblivion
Leaving man and wolf alone,
The trees felled to form a frame
To keep at bay the nightmare,
Our Designer gave, to us the sun, hint, to stare.

And time to t We harnessed the land and animals,
Now forever at our beck and call,
Husband herds for wool and drink,
Till the earth, and re-store the stall,
Maintain somehow some kind of balance
Each taking from each other,
All eventually devoured by worm,
Each in fact the others brother.

Fields of green feed clear eyed cattle
Who nourish man and replenish ground,
And tireless tube, eyeless snake,
Completes this endless merry go round.

Should we leave the beasts to wolves,
Or chomp our way through cholorphyl green,
Or destory our mortal enemy below our feet,
Or perhaps observes leave this scene?

It is not the fear of going
But more of how we go.
Are we not as kind to vegetables
As beasts of burden slow,
Do not trees bleed, or grass cry when freed
By force from Earth Mothers glow?

If meat is murder
Then vegetarians must also go!
