A Penny For Them
My Old Dutch
Hush
One evening after restless day at school,
Checking constantly blue sky,
In attention at Latin declension,
Electric bell makes laggard fly.

Shirt tail trailing in the breeze,
cap askew, socks halfmast,
Peddling frantic, like galloping stallion
Homeward bound, double fast.

Black blazer, green striped tie,
Knotted shoes left in a pile,
On with green flash rubber soles
And white shorts of immaculate style.

Rummage deep through discard clothes,
Find wooden handled bead in rack,
Then climb aboard the magic car pet,
Towel round neck, racket on back

Up down, up down, twinkle toes,
Up Glenesk to Eltham Park,
To lob and smash like Falkenburg,
Till brown coat says, "Its much too dark"
