WhereNext
These straight lines were never trod
By centurion of Ceasars troop,
And rivers made by Pophams men
Went out to sea, without a loop.

Right angled route across this plain,
That once was shadowed by waves.
Has left long hills of blackened earth

Where moles make doom watch caves.

But suddenly, with sticks and stones,
A village, narrow, long, appears.
Oasis in a desert flat
Where windows glow as mirage clears.

Though tram track, now a part of time.
Long torn up and dead,

Leaves rows of trees on empty path,
Fond memories in many a head.
