Flattened rabbit on the road

Is such a saddening sight,
Iridescent pheasants feathers
Fluttering, makes throat tight,
And pair of golden foxes,
Sleeping dead in opposite gutter,
Leaves such dread within my head
And turns my heart a flutter.

Crafty dog and sylph like vixen

Abroad for food, to take
To tucked up tight little pups
Who never a sound will make,
Until their empty bodies cry
And tiny heads will shake.

Ssearching for scrap in dustbin
Or scaring rooster fat
In a suburban garden,

Or stalking household cat,
Until exhausted late for home
Not counting time,
Nor miles to roam,
This awe full,
Four lane arterial road
That hours before
With indolence strode.

Quick dash
Quick flash
Quick squeal of brakes.
Slow breath,
Slow death,
As cold, dark, makes.
