WhereNext
If I awoke one morning
And found there was no sun,
And all the earth was cold and still,
And no longer rung
When stepped upon by hurrying feet,
That slowed where birds once sung,
Would tears come to my eyes to wash away
The visions of a crumbling land,
Or would I reach up
And put out the sight
With a trembling skeleton hand?

If I awoke one morning
And all the mounds were gone,
And monoliths a molten lake
Too hot to sail upon,
The henges trench ironed flat,
With Silbury razed to plain,
Would I alone be here to cry
To see this crumbling land,
Or would I find another soul
To step the flaming fields
And go hand in bony hand?

If I awoke one morning
And found everything was vanished,
The green of grass, the blue of sky,
The yellow of desert, all banished,
Would I blame Man for all this mess,
With bricks and mortar, vapour
Or would I see Gods grinning face,
Remembering Jesus on the cross.
Did He first light the taper?
