I've tried lots of diets and all they did was leave me hungry and tired. My success rate was very low and it wasn't for lack of trying.

There are two diets that have worked wonders for me.

To lose fat at a significant rate which requires some will-power but doesn't leave you hungry and produces spectacular results, is the velocity diet.

The long term diet that works for me is the Paleo Diet.

Both of these diets have been talked about a lot but the people who have tried them know that they work and are safe and healthy. The doctors and dieticians will tell you otherwise citing many studies, but the citations from those positively investigating the Paleo Diet and Velocity Diet are scientific rather than correlational studies.

Even if these diets were somehow not the right thing, isn't that better than a general anaesthetic and surgery in hospital?
