I remember Scampton
In Fifty Three and Fifty Four,
Six One Seven and Niggers grave,
And The Dambusters battle score.

I walked the route to the Transmitter Hall,
By-passed the D/F Site,
Stood By on early morning missions,
And blind flying sessions at night.

I was never in The Film,
My battle dress out of date,
Our supper-time chats in The Mess
Discussed the Wartime Fate.

I found The Spot where Lawrence died,
The motorcycling King of Arabia,
And pondered my place in History,
And the need for another Saviour.

The Korean War,
The Canberra,
The Worlds first jet bomber,
The Atomic Threat,
The Iron Curtain,
And future Life so sombre.

But I was now an expert
And took off for Fontainebleau,
Allied Forces Central Europe,
And Soissons, dontcherknow.
“Underground” training and “Inner Temple”,
And a perfect chance to meet
Sir Basil Embrey, the Wartime Hero,
With a rugger ball at my feet.
