MisterMMM.com: Derby and District Driving Intructors Association

March 8

It was with regret that I couldn't get to the last Derby and District Driving Instructors Association meeting in February. John Pierrepont, who has been chairman for a decade or more stepped down. That's a fair old stint of guiding the association through many changes.

Driving instrutors by their nature are independent people, and collaboration is often seen as working with the enemy. There are only so many learners out there, and we all want them all. So thanks to John, who has given a lot of his time and energy to try to bring this disparate group of people together.

I wasn't at the meeting so don't know how this went down with the others. The thing that worries me more is that if nobody else is able or willing to guide the association, then the beneficial meetings with Dave from Sinfin Test Centre, and the occasional official visit from the DSA central, will not happen again.

It's not an easy role to fill, and strangely, as I see it (IMHO), driving instructors are not the kind to produce leaders very often. I hope for the best.

It might cross your mind that I am talking about this and so should step forward. From experience I know that I cannot lead people! I can talk to them at length, as in public speaking, but when it comes to gaining concensus and working for a common goal, I just go my own way without being able to see the big picture. We need someone with rather more vision than I have. Maybe someone who isn't even a driving instructor :-}
