April 5Every year, a list of the most dangerous roads in Britain is published. I always find this funny. Not the dying bit, because that is tragic and very sad, but this idea that the people dying has something directly to do with the road, and only the road. It's like saying that hospitals are dangerous places, because statistically so many people die there. We really should shut them all down so that people don't die there anymore?!? I am thinking back to a few years ago when a mother drove her car with baby into the canal at Deepdale Lane in Sinfin.
With that logic, there should be barriers on the sides of all roads, to stop drivers driving off of them. It might be onto a pavement where there are pedestrians, or into a wall or railings next to the road, so that the driver is safe from them. It might be to protect the driver from crashing into trees on the roadside. Where does it end, and what should get special treatment? Anyway, back to the point. There is no such thing as a dangerous road! It is only how people drive on them that is dangerous. If you drive to the conditions up to the speed limit, what's the problem! Of course, if the conditions are so bad that you can't drive on it, then why are you driving on it?
