January 22Some have Pink Licences and are trainees. Most have Green licences which mean they are fully qualified. Once fully qualified the instructor will need to take a 'Check Test' on a regular basis so that they can keep their ADI qualification. (external site) The Grading System according to the Government. If the grading system isn't taken into account, then potential clients may believe that instructors must compete on which car they have, how much they charge, and whether they are 'nice' people! Grades 1, 2 and 3 should not be considered. Grade 4 "A competent overall performance with some minor deficiencies in instructional technique" Grade 5 "A good overall performance with some minor weaknesses in instructional technique" Grade 6 "Overall performance to a very high standard with no significant instructional weaknesses" There can be a world of difference between grades 4 and 6, but remember that it is based on a single one hour lesson being observed, once every 2 to 4 years. It is entirely possible that the instructor really did have a 'bad day', but how can you tell if they do teach like that on every lesson! A good idea is to have a single lesson and see how you get on.
