So, anyway, to cut a long story short, we went down to Burton. We went to to the Super test centre there, and took a test on roads never driven before. I hoped that this would ensure no prior knowledge of the roads, no previous experience of what other drivers would do. Nothing but seeing what was there, driving to the conditions, coping with the hazards that were really there, driving properly!

And they passed. Congratulations! Best driving they had done in a few weeks, simply because they had no idea of where they were, or what was coming next, or what was hidden around the corner. Just dealing with what was there. No more, no less!

Ok, so some instructors would think I am missing the point that people just want their licence! Am I really missing the point? What's wrong with being able to drive anywhere, under any conditions?

On the way back from test, I re-iterated the point from the examiner, that they had show a really good awareness of the road and conditions, and what was around them. The examiner complimented them, that they can drive!!!

Apparently though, they are only going to drive to the shops, and to see their mum! Well, that can certainly be done safely. They know the road. I just hope they don't assume that things will be the same each time!
