April 5If you have been lucky enough to be driving a car under your provisional licence, you may be surprised at what can happen to your insurance when you pass the test. When you do pass your test, the first thing you want to do when you get home, is to go out and drive on your own. Bravo, go and do it! BUT sort out your insurance first! The son of a friend of mine, from another part of the country had passed his driving test. The next day, bought a car via the internet. After work, went to pick it up and drove home. One of the rear lights wasn't working and he was stopped by the police. He didn't have any insurance, not even a cover-note. So had the car taken, was fined and had 6 points on his licence for driving without insurance, and then because he had been driving less than 2 years (just over a day in-fact), the 6 points meant he lost his licence, too! When you pass your test, make sure the insurance is up-rated to your new status of full-licence holder, before you venture out on your own. Even though you are now a qualified and provenly able driver, your insurance is more than likely to go up. This lad got a bit of a shock! |
